Why I Designed a Planner
I was standing at my desk trying to figure out why organizing my schedule for the week ahead felt so chaotic. I tried using a planner from Franklin Covey, where you purchased yearly inserts to put in a beautiful leather binder, but it was heavy and unwieldy to put in my bag. Then I tried going digital with my phone, but it was hugely distracting. Every time I picked up my phone to check my calendar, I’d end up spending half an hour checking notifications and going down rabbit holes. I tried a Moleskin planner, light and compact so it could easily fit in my bag. It was too small to list anything other than basic scheduling. That led to needing an additional to do list and an additional notebook to write down things I needed to do throughout the month.
I wanted to feel calm and confident as I sketched out my week on Sunday evening, cocktail in hand, or Monday morning with a cup of coffee. I wanted to open my diary and see my week, my month, my to do list, without having to use multiple products – both analogue and digital.
So, I decided to start designing. I was designing for the woman I wanted to be. My aspirational self. Someone who stands tall and gets things done that matter. Who aligns how she spends her time with her priorities. Who sees time as a precious commodity, to be thoughtfully spent. This version of myself doesn’t have patience with clunky planning methods that sap time and energy. She has a romantic appreciation for graceful elegance in daily life. Planning becomes a daily act of self-respect and gratitude.

Lynx Point Creative started out as a graphic design studio during the Covid pandemic, when my life as a professional musician was curtailed with canceled performances and assembly bans. Over the past five years it has gradually pivoted from designing websites, presentations, and portfolios for a select number of clients to producing a high-quality planner with new to market features. However, it’s mission has always been about creating a space for beautiful, functional design to add elegance, calm and poise to the world. Now that mission will be able to impact so many people in their daily planning and through inspirational, helpful lifestyle content both here on the blog and on the social media channels.

As we move forward into this new chapter, I hope that you find here a space where you are supported in valuing your most precious asset – time. For you to reach your human potential by cutting through the digital chaos and worldly noise, to really discern what YOU need to prioritize to achieve your dreams for your life, career, relationships, family, etc. And finally, that you will gain inspiration to live your best life with elegance and grace.
Next week, I’ll be sharing the story of my own planner journey...
