Summer Goal Planning

Summer is finally here! Let’s talk about summer goal planning!

Summer is a slower chapter after the busy Spring. (This year seemed especially hectic with the term Maycember everywhere!) It’s an opportunity to recharge before the Fall begins, and with it the march towards the holidays.

Goal planning can carry its own stress though. It can become a pressure to accomplish things or to get through an aspirational list. This year, I’m focusing on three main summer goal buckets based on my priorities. I’m also letting my goals be “suggestions” for my life rather than a set of to dos.  Your goal buckets should be based on what is important to you in your current season of life. Be sure that you are focusing on your priorities and not the latest Instagram trending suggestions.

Here are some tips:

1.

Choose three main areas/buckets

For example, this summer my buckets are fun learning activities with my daughters, preparing for the planner reveal with a photoshoot and social media content, making time for self-care with activities that “fill my cup”.

Brainstorm a list for each bucket category

The sky is the limit. Think of all the things that could fit in each of your three bucket categories. Imagine the perfect world where time is unlimited. Don’t edit yet, just let your creativity blossom.

Choose your top three activities for each bucket

Here is the editing stage. Choose the three top things that you’d really like to do or experience this summer for each bucket category. You will have your brainstorm list of additional things to do if time allows, but don’t try to accomplish a million things and end up stressed out. For example, I’d like to read more books for my self-care goal. So I’m going to try to read one novel, one biography, and one business strategy book.

A couple of additional tips

A fun way to plan these buckets is to write down your ideas on post it notes. I cut a yellow square post it into four strips and arrange them on a piece of paper under each bucket. Add and move ideas around until it feels like your buckets really support your goals and priorities for this summer.

Decorate Your Written Plans

You can also turn the paper where you write down your bucket list into a vision board or decorate it with stickers, drawings, photos, prints, or cut out. It can be a calming, creative project if you have the time!
